![]() ![]() I was at this show as well as the 11th in CT. If you really start listening to Bob you will hear IT. Go to this "how to play" site and about the one minute mark he features Bob's licks in Half-Step You have to really listen to hear how good it is, that is why it is SO GOOD. Listen to any Crazy Fingers, Row Jimmy or Althea from the 1980's and you will hear the most sublime and perfect playing. He was certainly overshadowed by Garcia, but don't discount his amazing playing. Yes the band had problems with Bob during the early years (67-69), but he got the message and became one of the best and most unique guitarists in rock. Jerry is essentially "plunking" while he sings and Bobby plays MOST OF THE GUITAR during Jerry's songs (during vocal verses). Nearly every Jerry song from that era (and thereafter) has incredible rhythm parts by Bob. His playing is unique and perfectly compliments the music. Listen to any soundboard from 1972-74 and you will hear his genius. In regards to Bobby, well he is one of the best guitarists in rock history.
